What Do YOU Love most about The German Shepherd?

Everyone loves the German Shepherd for different reasons. What is it about this breed, that you love so much?

Also, tell us about your dog. Describe what makes your baby so special to you?

I've owned German Sheperds since 1965 when I got out of Army. Began to watch them in 1953 when I was in grade school and always wanted one. I have had four and each had a unique personality, but all were extremely intelligent. I have had other breeds, but the GSD is my favorite. My last one was killed in an accident two years ago and even though I am still grieving, its time to get another. Even though I have had both male and female, the female is my favorite as they are smarter and easier to train. Trixie was the one that I remember the most and without question, the smartest dog that I have ever encountered. She taught herself how to heard cows and hogs. She retrieved when I went hunting. She was the best protection dog alive. Every hour on the hour, she could be timed going to the each window and door looking and listening, then she would return to the foot of the bed and sleep. She was up at the slightest noise and had a fierce bark and would attack on command. She learned ALL of this on her own. I only taught her the basis obidence commands and nothing beyond that. Often times when I tell people about this dog, they would accuse me of putting yeast into the story, but honestly, everything that I have described is the truth. When Trixie died, several people in the community attended her burial. My Father-in-Law would take her to heard horses or cows that had broken through neighbors fences and they could not believe her accumen. She was people friendly and only got nasty when the situation called for it. She got along with other animals, cats, included.

Even though I am searching, I know that we will never find another Trixie!
